Super Computing 2007 [06 Dec 2007|03:54pm]

I think this fits here

granted, it isn't hardware of mine, and I wouldn't know what to do with it anyway, but I think it still fits...

[20 Sep 2005|12:03pm]

Yesterday, some friends and I went down to the datacenter and installed freeBSD on our Sun Enterprise 450. I took this chance to photograph it slightly. I'll be back there today, so I'll take more pictures of their guts if I can. Definitely the 250.

Anyway, to the pictures:

PICTARSCollapse )

Freya is a 4 CPU enterprise 450, each CPU at 400 mhz with I think 2 gigs of RAM and 6 18G SCSI hard drives. It's becoming my test bed for a secure freeBSD replacement of the Gentoo linux install on fenrir. Also probably my database and SILC server.

Furnace Control Board [07 Jul 2005|09:19pm]

Not a Mac. A dead furnace control board; we think it was badly made and a resistor burned out. Eeep, bad camera again.

Akhlut & Tootega [07 Jul 2005|06:35pm]

This pr0n is probably a bit boring. Akhlut is a Macintosh Peforma 640CD (DOS Compatible). Tootega is a Macintosh IIsi, although I've never opened it before and when I went to do it, decided against it as there was no obvious way. There will be no breakage of my Mac II...

well, i was apt-get upgrading keldorn over ssh today from work, when i lost my connection. coming home i noticed an interesting smell coming from the box as it was looping between post and LILO, after turning it off, it refused to come on. diagnosis found the following:

a PBX I found.. [02 Jul 2005|09:29pm]

cashan and josh stole me for lunch and wound up taking me on this exciting expedition to their old office, where I found an old PBX. I didn't have my camera with me then and there, but I managed to steal two backplanes...

get to the pr0nCollapse )

the sad part is, josh then realized that Frys sold EPROM readers and burners. when we got there, he had forgotten for how much they sold them for, and josh and cashan got me out of there before I spent another ~$1K on stuff for analysis of hardware pulled out of an eight year old PBX.

Circa 1983 modem [05 Jun 2005|11:08pm]

I was looking for random hardware in Newell-Simon hall at Carnegie Mellon a few months ago and came across this jewel. (Note: it was in the "Take this random junk" pile, so I was allowed to take it.)

Watch as I open it up!Collapse )

I haven't yet tested to see if it works, as I lack the proper cables (specifically the appropriate power cable). Anybody have an idea where I can get one that would fit appropriately?

This being a placeholder for a post being produced currently. [05 Jun 2005|09:09pm]

Subject: a Texas Instruments TI-99/4A Home Computer, circa 1980-81.

This will be replaced with actual pictures once my dialup cooperates.

..and my screwdrivers mystically appear.

Update: so the post won't be taking place. The closest thing I have to a digicam is a Sony camcorder, and I can only grab pics off it at 320x240. So, suck. WHo wants to buy me a good digicam?
